
FUJIKO "FUJI" OKAMURA of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Masaru Okamura, passed away peacefully at the Chinook Regional Hospital on November 7, 2010 at the age of 95 years with her loving family at her side. Fujiko was born on March 26, 1915 in Mission B.C. She married Masaru Okamura on March 31, 1935. The family was evacuated to a farm in Picture Butte, Alberta, in 1942. In 1948, the family moved to Lethbridge, where Fujiko has since resided, her past two years at Black Rock Terrace. She remained active in her retirement years, belonging to the Chojukai, Fukuoka Ken Jinkai, Walkers' Club, enjoying her games of scrabble, and her hobby, knitting. She loved travelling to visit her family throughout Canada and the USA. Her greatest joy and pleasure were her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, who all occupied a special place in her heart. Fuji is survived by her sons: Tak (Jan) of Lethbridge; Hiroshi (Sets) of Toronto; Mas (Ruby) of Sherwood Park; Ken (Evelyn) of St. Albert, David (Wanda) of Olds; daughters, Vi (Jim) Morris of San Dimas, California; and Jane (Keith) Tanaka of Coleman. She is survived by 15 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters: Shizuka Akune of Richmond, BC; Kasumi Matsuda of Taber; Michie (Tad) Kawasaki of Blairmore; Heather (Harry) Anderson of Edmonton; sister-in-law Tomi Hisaoka of Lethbridge; and many nephews and nieces. Fujiko was predeceased by her husband Masaru in 1996; her parents, Ichirohe and Kin Hisaoka; her brothers: Ken, Jerry, Haruo, and Isamu; her sister, Kimiko Matsunaga; her sister-in-law, Renko Hisaoka; her brothers-in-law, Yuichi Akune, Todomu Matsunaga, and Roy Matsuda. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, November 12, 2010 at the BUDDHIST TEMPLE OF SOUTHERN ALBERTA, 470-40 Street South, Lethbridge, with Rev. Y. Izumi officiating. Koden and flowers are gratefully declined.
