Frances Marquardson

FRANCES MARY MARQUARDSON of Lethbridge, Alberta passed away peacefully at the Chinook Regional Hospital on September 26, 2009 at the age of 92 years after a short illness. She is loved and remembered by her children: Anmari Petrakis, Linda Sharma (Ron), Barry Marquardson, and Lori Marquardson (Marc), her grandsons Marco Petrakis (Carissa), and Michael Petrakis, her new twin great granddaughters Aura and Zephie Petrakis, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother Mary Zaborne, her father Alexander Austin and her siblings Amy, Ann, Elsie and Sonny. Frances was born on July 25, 1917 in Victoria, B.C., and raised on the West Coast, spending her school years in Vancouver, where she loved to spend time at English Bay and dancing at various ballrooms. She was interested in political affairs and worked in the Woodwards office. In 1943 she met and married Bert Marquardson, leaving big city life for country life in southern Alberta. She thrived there, began to raise a family and enjoyed being an active member of the Stirling community. In 1960, the family moved to Lethbridge, and she dedicated herself to creating a loving and welcoming home for her family and friends. She was a committed lifelong learner and found intellectual stimulation in many different arenas. She attended the Southern Alberta Council on Public Affairs, was an avid viewer of PBS, and enjoyed being involved in a variety of community issues. She loved life, she loved people, and she was a source of strength to all around her. She will be deeply missed. A Memorial Service will be held at THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS, 4105 Forestry Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB on Friday, October 2nd, 2009 at 11 am.
