Elene Johnson

ELENE JOHNSON November 24, 1921 - January 16, 2009 Mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. More than grand and more than great, she was always a mother. For most of her life Elene resided in Raymond, Alberta. In Raymond, she raised her seven daughters, was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, planted her gardens and welcomed birds into her yard. Elene had the "gift of the gab" and enjoyed talking to friends, family and strangers alike. Elene was predeceased by her husband, John Paul Johnson, and two of her daughters, Nancy Scott Sims and Evelyn VanRyn Oldenburger. Her five other daughters: Ruth (Louie) Hermary [Caroline, AB]; Gladys (Roger) Smith [Lethbridge, AB]; Dorothy (Alfred) Hermary [Edmonton, AB]; Margaret (Tony) Mousir [Edmonton, AB]; and Elizabeth (Doug) Goodrich [Lethbridge, AB], as well as her sister Bernice Johnson [Toole, Utah], remain to mourn her and cherish her memory. Elene's large family includes: 23 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great grandchildren. Her strength of character lives on within each of them. Numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends will miss her phone calls, letters and inspiration. Elene's family would like to thank the staff at the Edith Cavell Care Center for their care and concern for Elene over the last three years and their compassion at the end of her life. A special thank you is extended to Dr. Dave Stewart. In lieu of flowers, please give the gift of time - whether to help a family member, visit a neighbour, or volunteer with a charitable organization. Friends may meet the family on Wednesday evening, January 21 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at GENERATIONS FUNERAL HOME, 703-13 Street North, Lethbridge or prior to the service on Thursday at the church from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS, Knight Street Chapel, Raymond, with Bishop Richard Wilde officiating. Interment in the Temple Hill Cemetery, Raymond.
