Drena Harker

DRENA HARKER, beloved special daughter of Ted and Karma Harker, passed away suddenly at her home in Magrath on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at the age of 51 years. Besides her parents, Drena is survived by her brother Monte (Shainne) Harker of Magrath, her sisters Valerie (Randy) Smith of Cardston, AB, and Cheryl (Dave) DaCosta of Langley, B.C. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews: Ryan Harker (Dana), Jesse Harker (Melissa), Stephanie Harker, T.J. Smith, Kandice Bannock (Brooker), Davey DaCosta (Roxanne), Brittney DaCosta and Brianna DaCosta. She will be missed by her many aunts, uncles, cousins and numerous friends. Drena was born in Magrath, Alberta on May 25, 1958. She completed Grade 1 in Camrose and then moved to Lethbridge where she graduated Grade 12 from LCI. Drena cherished her friends and kept in touch with her childhood friends and her many friends from Lethbridge and Magrath. Drena loved living in Magrath and all the people she came in contact with from church and her work at SASH and extended family. Drena "loved to communicate" with all her friends. Ted and Karma are so thankful for all the family and friends that were so kind to Drena when she was "communicating" with them and allowing her to be part of their world. Words alone cannot express how Drena cherished the time and kind words you shared with her. As her family, we have no idea of all the friends Drena had or kept in "communication" with as she guarded her friendships as priceless possessions and kept these in her heart. Drena's health was not kind to her, but you wouldn't know it from her attitude. She never complained. She was strong willed, independent and sometimes just darn stubborn!! But it was just these attributes that kept Drena going where many of us would have given up. Her privacy and the ability to live on her own were important goals in life - another seemingly impossible dream that she overcame! Drena loved Her Heavenly Father and we have peace knowing that she is now back in His arms. In the end - love, family and friendships are all that count - and Drena was rich in the things that count. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to SASH, Box 280, Magrath, AB T0K 1J0. Friends may meet the family prior to the funeral service on Saturday, December 12 from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS, Magrath Garden Place Chapel, Magrath, AB, with Bishop Vince Harker officiating. Interment to follow in the Magrath Cemetery.
