Derrick Young Pine

DERRICK YOUNG PINE (1992 - 2011) DERRICK JAMES, beloved and cherished son of Kathy (Kallen) Young Pine; devoted brother to his loving sister Vanessa (Clayton Strutt); passed away Saturday, August 20, 2011 near Lethbridge. Derrick is also survived by his father Raynard and Raynard's children. Also left to mourn his passing are his life-long friends, Vanessa's fiance Clayton Strutt; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins from the Kallen and Young Pine families. He was predeceased by his beloved grandparents, Adam and Irma Kallen and Raymond and Kathleen Young Pine and other beloved family members. Derrick was born Saturday, December 5, 1992 in Lethbridge. Derrick started school at Park Meadows through to Grade 2, and then began Grade 3 at Fleetwood-Bawden where he established friendships continuing throughout Gilbert Paterson, LCI, and beyond. He began a welding apprenticeship at Kirchner Machine in the RA Program in his Grade 11/12 year. DJ had a variety of interests and talents. Starting with swimming lessons, gymnastics, cadets, little league baseball, recreational football, mutton bustin', steer riding, and Junior Bull Riding in the IRCA and CRA, and skateboarding. Derrick had an ear for a variety of music, hearing the melody and then playing it on piano or guitar. He played trumpet as well. DJ was very proud of his heritage. He had a keen interest in both the German and Blackfoot cultures. Prayers will be said on Friday, August 26 at 7:00 p.m. at ST. BASIL'S CHURCH. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at ST. BASIL'S CHURCH, 604-13 Street North, Lethbridge, with Fr. John Kohler, Celebrant. Interment in the Mountain View Cemetery, Lethbridge. Memorial donations may be made towards a memorial bench plaque at the Skateboard Park or to the IRCA/CRA through a trust account whose contact is Irma at (403) 634-9079.
