The official obituary of

Delbert Gough

July 20, 1929 — September 9, 2011

Send flowers

Heavenly Father has called home one of his great missionaries. DELBERT LIEVESLEY GOUGH finished his earthly work and passed away suddenly on Friday, September 9, 2011 in Calgary, Alberta, surrounded by family and his loving eternal companion Peggy. Delbert is survived by his wife and six children: Richard (Susan), Sandy, Debbie (Alex), Danelle (Bob), Darren (Susan), and Jason (Luisa), many grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He was the second eldest of three brothers - Wayne, Gary, Brian, and one sister, Diane. Delbert was born on July 20, 1929 in Raymond, Alberta to parents Clifford Day Gough and Gladys Lievesley. Delbert was a character whose presence could really fill a room. He will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor (often performing on stage in comedy routines with his sweetheart Peggy). His colorful expressions. His expedient personality. His playful nature. His tender heart. His love of life. His sensitive spirit. And his loving kindness to all. His legacy was one of service, hard work, and constant missionary work. He served an honorable mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Britain teaching many about the gospel of Jesus Christ. He spoke often of his public sermons in Hyde Park and was known as a master of the scriptures. He had a gift of teaching and went on to influence the lives of many young people who attended his classes throughout the years. He served a temple mission with Peggy in St. George, Utah. It was one of the happiest times of his life because he was once again a missionary. He penned many epistles to his children and often spoke prophetically. He loved his family and his God more than anything else. He has a powerful testimony of the living Christ and considered this testimony his most prized possession. There is no doubt that he is bearing this testimony even now in paradise. One of his favorite expressions was, "You get out of life what you put into it," and he put everything into his and blessed the lives of all who knew him. Nothing can separate us from God's love (Romans 8: 38-39) and nothing, surely not death, can separate us from the love we have for Delbert. Heaven just got a lot busier with the addition of one D. L. Gough. Life IS rich Dad, but not as much so without you in it. God be with you till we meet again. Friends may meet with the family on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at CHRISTENSEN SALMON GENERATIONS FUNERAL HOME, 703 - 13th Street North, Lethbridge, or at the church prior to the service from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4105 Forestry Avenue, Lethbridge, with William Laycock officiating. Interment to follow in the Temple Hill Cemetery, Raymond.
