Barry Paul Lewis, beloved husband of Penny Lewis (née Breau) of Lethbridge, Alberta, passed away peacefully at Chinook Regional Hospital on September 26, 2026, at the age of 62 years.

Barry leaves behind his wife of 40 years, Penny Lewis; his loving daughter, Melissa (Jeff) Forsyth; and his 2 grandchildren, Claire Forsyth and Jack Forsyth. He is also survived by his brother, Tim (Julie) Lewis.

Barry was predeceased by his parents, Ron and Thelma Lewis of Arthurite, New Brunswick.

Barry Lewis was born in Oakville, Ontario on July 2, 1964. He lived there with his father Ronald Lewis, a steelworker, his mother Thelma Lewis and his younger brother Tim Lewis. His father’s family also lived in the area. When Barry was 16, he moved with his parents and brother to Arthurette, New Brunswick along the Tobique River. His parents were originally from the area, and they lived directly across the road from his mothers’ parents, Frances and Wilford Campbell. Barry enjoyed a close relationship with his grandparents and his grandfather in particular.  He began attending Tobique Valley High School where he was known as the “city kid”. At this age he met his high school sweetheart, Penny Lewis. She lived directly across the river from him in Odell, with her family of 12 brothers and sisters “The Breau’s”. Barry was so in love that he would swim, canoe and snowmobile across the river to see Penny. This led to Barry and Penny becoming young parents as teens and they welcomed their daughter (Melissa) in 1983. In 1982 Barry started attending college in Truro at Nova Scotia’s Agriculture College. He enjoyed many shenanigans during his 2 years there. Having no vehicle, he would hitchhike all the way to Arthurette to see Penny and Melissa.

In 1986 Barry and Penny married. They relocated to Centreville, New Brunswick (later settling in Peel and Lansdowne) and Barry started his career at McCain Foods in Florenceville, New Brunswick making cakes. He then moved to the McCain’s research farm and settled in as the Raw Materials Procurement Manger. He worked with and had relationships with many of the potato growers in Carleton County area. In 2001 he accepted a job at Maple Leaf Potatoes (later Cavendish Farms) and moved with his wife and daughter to Lethbridge, Alberta. He stayed in the Potato Business his entire career and retired from Cavendish Farms in 2024.

Barry was a people person and was very charismatic. He was always well prepared for all situations. He had a strong pride in ownership, taking care of all, he had and always had the best lawncare on the block. He enjoyed staying on top of current events, loved movie time with his wife and was always up for a game of crib or crokinole. One of the most beloved parts of Barry’s life was when he became a grandfather. He adored and loved his grandchildren. He was a superb grandfather and spent a lot of his free time with his grandkids. He immensely enjoyed time at home with his wife, breakfast outings and family time. Barry had a strong sense of faith. His absence leaves a hole, but we take comfort knowing he is resting in eternal joy and peace.

He will be dearly loved and sorely missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
