
AMY EMIKO SAKAMOTO passed away peacefully at Palliative Care St. Michael's Health Centre on Sunday, September 23, 2007 at the age of 81 years. She was the loving mother to: Neal, Dwight and Nelson of Lethbridge, and Michelle (Bob) Brown of Calgary. She is also survived by three grandchildren: Kiara, Sage, and Calista Brown; a sister: Shigeko Hayashi (Vancouver, BC); a brother: Tom (Rose) Hirose (Richmond, BC); a sister-in-law, Asaye Sakamoto (Lethbridge, AB); and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth Y. Sakamoto; brothers: Tahei, Ted, and Harry Hirose, and a sister: Annie Kitagawa. Amy was born March 27, 1926 in Steveston, BC. She relocated to Alberta as a teenager where she met and eventually married Ken. Tragically, she lost the love of her life in 1975. She remained in Taber until 1992 at which time she made Lethbridge her home. She was a devoted mother and beloved grandmother. Her enjoyment of Japanese dancing lead her to be active with the Momiji dancers. In addition, she was a member of the Shigaken-kai and Chojukai. Amy loved spending time with family and delighted in games of chance. Friends may meet the family on Thursday, September 27, 2007 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at GENERATIONS FUNERAL HOME, 703-13 Street North, Lethbridge. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, September 28, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at the Lethbridge Buddhist Temple, 1303-13 Street North, Lethbridge, with Rev. Yasuo Izumi officiating. Private family interment to follow in the Taber Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers and koden, memorial donations may be made to the Buddhist Temple of Southern Alberta, c/o Lethbridge Buddhist Temple, 1303-13 Street North, Lethbridge, AB T1H 2T8; or to St. Michael's Health Centre, Palliative Care, 1400-9 Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB T1J 4V5.
