Almeta Matthews

ALMETA MATTHEWS, beloved wife of Wayne Matthews of Lethbridge, passed away on March 5, 2016 at the age of 74. Almeta was born in Vermilion on October 6, 1941, to Leta and Herman Wilton. She was the eldest of 5 children, Jim, Richard, Russell and Sue. In 1958 she met and fell in love with Wayne. Soon after, they married and started their lives together living in many small towns in Alberta. The first priority in any new town was always to find a church home. Judy arrived in Claresholm, Roger arrived while they lived in Vermilion, Sean followed while they lived in Morrin. Brooks was the next stop for a few years then back to central Alberta again to live in Delia. Taber followed, then Wetaskiwin, finally settling in Lethbridge in 2001. She worked in the post office in Delia, Alberta along with being the treasurer in several of her church homes, she enjoyed knitting and sewing but most of all, she enjoyed visiting with friends, often sharing God's message. Throughout their lives together Almeta and Wayne showed God's love to many people by helping them find their way through difficult situations. Prior to retirement, she and Wayne took up trucking, delivering holiday trailers across North America. Almeta had many fond memories of the new and exciting places they travelled through. Almeta and Wayne were foster parents to two special little boys, Aldin and Eddie Fox and have fond memories of their times together and have prayed, throughout the years that the two boys, along with other children they fostered, were safe and loved. Almeta was predeceased by her parents Leta and Herman Wilton, brother James (Carol) Wilton, sisters-in-law, Cathy Wilton and Inga Jesswein, nephew David Wilton and niece Christa Wilton. She is survived by her loving husband Wayne and children: Judy Lumley, Roger (Debbie) Matthews; Sean (Allison) Matthews. Siblings: Richard (Cheryl) Wilton, Russell Wilton, Sue (Garth) Graham. Grandchildren: Russell (Amanda) Matthews; Mitchel Matthews; Tegan Matthews (Dylan Schell); Zachary Matthews; Celine & Colin Friesen; Barbara & Dave Tillsley and Dennis Street (nephew) along with 5 Great Grandchildren: Lyla, Jace, Adam, Eddie, and Levon. Plus many other nieces and nephews and family far and wide. Funeral Services will be held at CHRISTENSEN SALMON GENERATIONS FUNERAL HOME, 703 - 13 Street North, Lethbridge, on Saturday, March 12 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Ken Dosso officiating. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Compassion Canada or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
