Allan Robert 'Bob' Varty

ALLAN ROBERT LEONARD VARTY beloved husband of Lillian, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on Sunday, June 6, 2010 at the age of 91 years. Allan (known as Bob) is survived by his loving wife Lillian; 2 sons: Larry (Linda) Stirling, AB, and Jim (Marilynn), West Lethbridge; a daughter Sharon (Michael) Herrington of Lethbridge; 18 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; and 2 great, great grandchildren. Bob is also survived by 3 sisters: Reta Morphy, Innisfail, AB, Hope Elliot, White Rock, BC, June (Paul) Rubak, Calgary; and a brother Jim in Kamloops, BC. Bob was born in Innisfail, AB on April 13, 1919. He was the 8th of 14 children born to Thomas James Harvey Varty and Hattie Alfreda Sonnie. He married Lillian Hargraves at her parents' home in Taber, AB on September 3, 1940. In less than 3 months they would have celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary. He followed the trade of his father; that of a carpenter, working for various construction companies building houses, schools, nursing homes and hospitals. He spent considerable time on the Indian reserves in the far north when he worked for Indian Affairs. Bob loved people, always going the extra mile to help someone. He was greatly loved and respected by all his family and many dear friends. The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, June 10, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS, Knight Street Chapel, Raymond, with Bishop Robert Baker officiating. Friends may meet the family at the church prior to the service from 11:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Interment in the Taber Cemetery, Taber, AB at 4:00 p.m.
