He passed away at Prairie Ridge in Raymond. A sincere heartfelt thank you to the staff that made a difference, that treated him with love and respect. We will never be able to thank you enough. We also want to thank all those who visited Alan and showed him kindness. Alan is the loving father of: Darell (Cory) Pack of Ottawa, Robert (Yvonne) Pack of Red Deer. Barbara's sons; Clinton (Kathryn) Mckee of Lethbridge, Benson (Laken) McKee of Coalman, and Spencer (Theah) McKee of Raymond. Fourteen grandchildren: Kathleen, Amanda, Tracy, Shandi, Riley, Kaitlyn, Maren, Brayden, Jaret, Chase, Ezra, Bethany, Jarom, Kaihonna. Eight great grandchildren: Kayla, Tristan, Colten, Skye, Jade, David, Brontae, and Harper. He is also survived by his loving wife Barbara Ann Pack, his brothers; Murray (Lavonne), Gary (Barbara), Ronnie (Susan), Devar (Elaine) and his sister Julie (Claude). He was predeceased by his beloved wife Norma Jean Meldrum Pack, his son Brian Alan Pack, and his parents, Mirza Pack and Mable Bingham Harker Pack. Alan was born in Magrath, AB on April 24, 1935 and raised on the family farm north west of Raymond. He was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting and fishing with his father and siblings. He married his childhood sweet heart, Norma Jean Meldrum on July 27, 1955. He graduated from Olds Agricultural College and then returned to the family farm to raise his children with Norma. While raising their 3 sons, he also became a secondary father to many young men as scout leader. His nick name was "Digger" because of all the holes he dug for latrines at scout camps. His troops are known for their skills and their attention to duty with the majority of his scouts earning the Queen Scout award. He returned to Olds College to earn a diploma in Irrigation Technology and spent the remainder of his career with the Alberta Department of Environment. Upon retirement, he and Norma were founding members of the Raymond Agricultural Society in Raymond. He volunteered there for 10 years and laid the foundations of the buildings including the Red Barn. He was an active community volunteer throughout his life, including leveling the sand for the artificial ice surface of the new ice arena. He was an avid curler until the old arena burnt down. Turning his time to caving with the scouts, rock collecting and camping with his boys, he was always on the lookout for the underdog. His greatest legacy was teaching his boys through example, how to honor their wives. He loved visiting his grandchildren and great grandchildren and they loved him. He loved nothing better than to treat them to a "snow bob" when they came to visit. They would hop in the truck and off they would go. He loved his trucks! He was always poignant with his "one liners". One of his famous quotes was, "If it's in a bottle and it's from Utah, it's a scam!" We are lucky to have been loved by him and are truly blessed by that love. Alan was a dignified man full of love and a caring person for his family and close friends. After 50 years of marriage to Norma, his childhood sweetheart, she passed away in March 21, 2002 of Lou Gehrig's disease. Alan married Barbara Ann Wyles McKee on December 13, 2003 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Alan and Barbara went out on many outings and traveled to many of his favorite places. He was very spontaneous, "pack your bags" and away they would go! He had a love for travel and for all of God's creations. He wanted to show it all to Barbara. Alan had a great desire to learn and loved to watch documentaries. He was an avid movie buff, especially enjoying westerns. He was also an avid reader, reading all types of books. His great passion was studying about his Heavenly Father. Alan loved the Savior and loved serving in the temple. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 22, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, TAYLOR STREET CHAPEL, 221 North, 400 West, Raymond, with Bishop Greg Smith officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Footprints in the Sand One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord. Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky. In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand. Sometimes there were two sets of footprints, other times there were one set of footprints. This bothered me because I noticed that during the low periods of my life, when I was suffering from anguish, sorrow or defeat, I could see only one set of footprints. So I said to the Lord, "You promised me Lord, that if I followed you, you would walk with me always. But I have noticed that during the most trying periods of my life there have only been one set of footprints in the sand. Why, when I needed you most, you have not been there for me?" The Lord replied, "The times when you have seen only one set of footprints, is when I carried you." Mary Stevenson
