Victor Mark Obituary

Victor left this earth March 9, 2020. Husband of Monica, father of Vickie (Frank Terner), Wendy (Norman Nelson), Spencer (Teri), Kathy, Ian (Ivea), David (Laura, deceased), and Monica (Holt Zaugg), Victor loved his family and many friends. Adding sons and daughters-in-law, a recent count included some 70 grand and great-grandchildren -  with more expected. He was proud of each one, and always knew the exact tally!

Born in Edmonton, Alberta, in 1927, to Victor and Mary Mark, he spent his early years in Mannville, Alberta until the family moved to Edmonton in his mid-teens.   Following High School, Victor completed a Bachelor of Commerce degree at the University of Alberta and subsequently obtained his Chartered Accountant designation, the occupation in which he spent the remainder of his career. He contributed to the success of national and international firms, as well as his own accounting partnerships.  Victor pioneered Business Valuation in Calgary, also completing a Doctorate of Business Administration in 1972.  In addition to his regular career, Victor shared his knowledge in accounting as an instructor at the University of Calgary, Mount Royal College and SAIT over the span of many years.

Victor and his sister Elsie grew up with an appreciation of music, particularly piano and singing. Marriage to Monica Swan in 1950 broadened this to include opera and theatre. Through the years they attended many performances, particularly at theatres in Calgary, ranging from world renowned artists to Monica’s students and their own children.

Hobbies included sailing, shooting, & flying as both private pilot and glider pilot. Of particular interest was the Royal Canadian Navy (Reserve) in which he served for more than 25 years.  A long time member of the Rotary Club, he also belonged to the Knights of the Round Table in Calgary.

Victor and Monica travelled the world, making friends wherever they went.

Victor was particularly grateful for his knowledge of the Saviour. As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, he served in many capacities, including service missionary in Calgary.

 Victor is now at peace.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
