Shizuye Shirley Taniguchi

     Shizuye “Shirley” Taniguchi of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Robert “Bob” Taniguchi of Lethbridge, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2020 at the age of 92 years.

     Shirley will be remembered by her children; Joanne (Hal) O’Gilvie, Cathy Taniguchi, Alan Taniguchi, David Taniguchi and Rick (Donna) Taniguchi; 4 grandchildren; sisters-in-law Ayako & Betty Taniguchi as well as her numerous nieces, nephews and their families.

     Shirley was born in Mission, B.C., the youngest child and only daughter of Kyusaburo and Chiye Tatebe. In 1947, she was relocated to Southern Alberta, eventually settling in Lethbridge where she worked at Canadian Furriers as a seamstress and at Singers as a sewing instructor. Shirley and Bob were married in 1960 and raised five children. She frequently put her sewing skills to good use creating matching outfits for her children. Shirley loved to garden and was famous for her homemade dill pickles, made from cukes out of the garden. Shirley enjoyed walking and could be seen out and about in the neighbourhood quite frequently. In her later years, she enjoyed participating in the many activities at West Highlands Centre. She was especially happy to become a grandma and enjoyed spending time with family.

     Besides her loving husband Bob, Shirley was predeceased by her brothers Joe, Sam, Harry and Ken Tatebe.

     A Private family service will be held on Friday July 3, 2020 at the Christensen Salmon Generations Funeral Home, Lethbridge, Alberta.

     The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of West Highlands Care Centre of the Good Samaritans Society for the care they provided.
