Roger McAdam Obituary

Roger McAdam, beloved husband to Dixie of Lethbridge, Alberta, passed away peacefully with his girls at his side on February 2, 2023, at the age of 76 years.  He is also the loving, ever proud father of Amber (Kenny Joss), and Erin McAdam (Grant Murray), as well as Papa to Xander and Alexis.

Roger was born on April 23, 1946 in London, England.  His mother Ouida, sister Maureen and Roger, at the young age of 6 months, made the long boat journey across the pond to Lethbridge, Alberta to reunite with father, Thomas. Roger proved quite the accomplished athlete throughout his life, naming only some, hockey, broomball, lacrosse & basketball were ingrained in his nature.  Over his life he wore many hats, held many jobs, and owned three businesses – Ski & Creel (Lethbridge), Beaver Mines Store, and Wildrose Video & Books (Pincher Creek).  He liked to keep busy and he was always there to lend a hand whenever and wherever he was needed, evidenced by the fact that he was a firefighter with the City of Lethbridge for 13 years.  His passions included fishing and skiing, especially at Westcastle /Castle Mountain some 54 years.  Roger gave 110% to everything he did, be it his family life, coaching, mentoring, teaching, being a councillor, board member or an entrepreneur. He was a small man in stature but larger than life for the man he was.  He was so many things to so many people and could collect friends like no one else.  Simply put, he was a people-magnet and was truly loved by so many.  If you were to ask Roger how he was on any given day; whether he was on his hands and knees washing the kitchen floor, where let’s face it, no one is almost perfect or on the lake or stream fishing or the ski hill enjoying the snow, where that might be more believable, he was “almost perfect”.  His upbeat, positive nature was infectious and will be missed but never forgotten.  All these attributes contribute to the lasting legacy he leaves behind.

Roger is survived by four sisters, Maureen Matson, Cicine (Francis Smith), Betty Carbert (Darrell Piehl), and Sue (Andy Reeves), as well as numerous nieces and nephews as well as their kids. He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Ouida McAdam, sister Sandy, brother-in-law Bill, nephew-in-law Todd, nephew Curtis, and his best friend of 50 plus years, Ken Murray.
