Obituary

PEGGY ANNE GOUGH
1935 - 2021
One of Father’s sweetest spirits returned home after a life full of love, service, and charity.

PEGGY ANNE O’BRIEN passed away peacefully on March 15, 2021 in Calgary, Alberta surrounded by loved ones.
Peggy was proceeded in death by her loving husband, Delbert (2011) and survived by her 6 children, Richard (Susan), Sandy, Debbie (Alex), Danelle (Bob), Darren (Susan), and Jason ( Luisa) .She has 27 Grandchildren  and 29 Great-Grandchildren with 2 more soon to join our family.
Peggy was born February 15, 1935 in Lethbridge, Alberta to parents Richard and Clarice O’Brien. She was the eldest and had 3 siblings, Richard (Judy) O’Brien, Sharon (Dee)Leishman and Kathy (Greg) Pratt.
Peggy was literally famous for her sense of humor, often doing standup—even as a duo with her sweetheart Delbert—that left crowds in stiches. She once did a routine for the Premier of Alberta, but her best shows were performed in the walls of her home where she taught her children to live, laugh, and love (with the occasional water or food fight for good measure).
Peggy loved the Savior and developed a close relationship with Him that lifted her to overcome many struggles, including a debilitating stroke in 2001. Peggy served faithfully in many positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints including 2 missions. She and Delbert served in the St George temple and did membership location work in St George as well. She and Del loved their winter home in St George so much. They made many friends there and were sad to sell their trailer when it was time. Despite persistent declines in health, she was always optimistic and never complained. Well, maybe the occasional, “Darn, darn.”
People loved being around Peggy. She had an infectious personality and never took life too seriously (except when playing Rook). She was a second Mom to the many kids, friends, and missionaries that came in and out of our home throughout the years. Heartfelt messages and hilarious memories have been streaming in for this “wonderful” woman.
Peggy had a passion for music which was always on in the Gough home, either by radio, by instruments, or by her children singing around the piano. She sang in trios and many choirs including the “Singing Mothers” choir that travelled to Utah and sang for a General Conference session in October 1967. She was very proud of that. Her favorite song was
Consider the Lilies of the Fields with the message in Luke 12:27 that if she
trusted God, who provides for all life, He would provide for her so she could provide for us.
You are arrayed in glory dear Mother, sweet lily. At last, you can speak freely, breathe deeply, sing beautifully, laugh openly, rest peacefully, and love eternally.
