With sadness, the family of Margaret Emilie Nordstrom announces her passing on August 28, 2025, at the age of 77. Margaret passed away at St. Michael’s Health Centre in Lethbridge, Alberta.
Margaret was the beloved wife of George Nordstrom of Cardston, Alberta, and the devoted mother of George August Reil (Ellen) of Calgary, AB, Emilie Reil (Jason Bengry) of Cardston, AB, Bryant John Reil of Kelowna, BC, Susan Reil Naylor (Chris Naylor) of Henderson, Nevada, Janice Reil of Lethbridge, AB, and Amber Reil Kan-Hai (Steve Kan-Hai) of Magrath, AB. She was predeceased by her daughter, Christel Reil, in October 2007.
She will be deeply missed by her 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, who were a great source of pride and joy in her life.
Margaret was born to Helena Bodnaruk and Arthur Carson in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan. She grew up on a beautiful homestead in Peace River Country, where her early years instilled in her a lifelong love of nature and simple living.
In her early twenties, Margaret joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a decision that shaped her spiritual journey. She studied journalism and later received certification in addictions counselling. Passionate about the natural world, Margaret worked alongside Ernie Kuyt to help save the whooping cranes and also studied wolf behavior.
Margaret was an avid genealogist and gardener who found peace and purpose in connecting with the world around her.
She will be deeply missed and live on forever in the hearts of her family and friends.
