Lyle Robinson Obituary

It is with great love and sadness that the family of Lyle Raymond Robinson announce his passing on October 21, 2025, at Foothills Hospital in Calgary, Alberta, at the age of 85.

Lyle was born on May 28, 1940, in Medicine Hat, Alberta, to Lester Bruce Robinson and Marion Evelyn Robinson, and was raised in Burdett, Alberta. He was the beloved husband of Elaine Robinson for 63 years, and together they built a life rooted in love, family, and faith.

Lyle will be forever remembered by his children Laurie Schmidt (Kurt) of Duncan, BC, Greg Robinson (Bonny) of Raymond, AB, and Cynthia Allum (Bill) of Lethbridge, AB; by his 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, who all brought immense joy to his life; and by all who were blessed to know him.

He was predeceased by his son Kevin Bruce Robinson (Leah), his daughter Leanne Rene Robinson, his parents Lester Bruce Robinson and Marion Evelyn, his brother Richard Robinson, and his sister Barbara Appleton.

Lyle was raised on the family farm in Burdett, Alberta, where he learned the values of hard work, service, and determination. During those early years, he developed many valuable life skills such as gardening, auto mechanics, and general handyman work—abilities he lovingly passed down to his children and grandchildren over the years. At the age of 21, he became a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a faith that guided and strengthened him throughout his life. He later married Elaine Easthope, his sweetheart from Taber, Alberta. They raised five amazing children, each convinced they were his favorite, and later moved to Calgary, where they built a life filled with purpose, faith, and community.

Lyle’s life was filled with quiet strength, kindness, and devotion to his family. He worked for 32 years with Canadian Western Natural Gas (ATCO), where he was respected for his hard work and integrity. He was the ultimate volunteer, always willing to lend a hand wherever it was needed. Lyle helped so many people in so many ways and gave freely of his time and talents, often reaching out to help those who were truly in need.

He loved the outdoors and spent many summers with family and friends camping, fishing, and golfing—creating countless memories that will be cherished forever. He was also an avid curler, enjoying both the competition and the camaraderie it brought. For many years, Lyle tended the flowerbeds at the Raymond Hospital, adding beauty and cheer to the grounds, while Elaine volunteered inside the hospital in other ways—together bringing hope and sunshine to patients and visitors through their quiet acts of service. He would often play Neil Diamond in the family station wagon, sparking joyful sing-along moments that became treasured family traditions.

Lyle was also a dedicated Scouter and volunteered many summers teaching young men important skills, even inspiring his oldest son Kevin Robinson to obtain his Chief Scout Award. He was always eager to teach any of his children or grandchildren how to golf, fish, or play card games. Lyle loved spending time with his family and always insisted on buying everyone dinner when celebrating a birthday or special occasion. Family was everything to him.

An open house in memory of Lyle will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at The Raymond Stake Centre, 2 N 200 W, Raymond, Alberta.

Lyle will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew and loved him. We hope he’s somewhere catching many fish and playing card games—changing the house rules whenever he feels like it.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the Diabetes Foundation of Canada or the Raymond Auxiliary Hospital in Lyle’s memory.
