Karen Ichino passed away unexpectedly at the Chinook Regional Hospital on June 18, 2026, at the age of 75 years. She is survived by her sister Theresa Ichino and several cousins, including Debbie (Jay) Won and her aunt Myrna Ichino. She was predeceased by her parents Kimiko and Kenzo Ichino.
A talented artist and passionate teacher, Karen was generous with her expertise, time and encouragement. She rejoiced in her students’ successes and encouraged them to explore their visions rather than limiting their boundaries. As a practicing artist, Karen was also able to share real-world experience regarding art as a profession.
Sadly, Karen’s career, both as an artist and educator, was cut short by physical challenges, robbing her too early of opportunities to continue creating the many beautiful pieces she enjoyed bringing to life in many media, including glasswork, paintings and jewelry. (Please google “Karen Ichino” to see examples of her artistry.) She leaves a legacy of beauty in many forms, as well as talented students who pursued their own artistic dreams to create visions of their own.
Karen loved animals. In lieu of flowers, if you so choose, please consider donating to an animal rescue or welfare, or animal food bank, including the veteran’s association.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Christensen Salmon Generations Funeral Home, 703 – 13 Street North, Lethbridge, Alberta.
