John Owen was born May 9, 1941 in Bargoed Wales United Kingdom to Thomas and Margaret Owen. He grew up in the heart of South Wales in the Rhymney Valleys where he met his love Megan, married her and started his family. By 1981, They all emigrated to Canada where he raised his family in Lethbridge.
John worked for many years as a welder and crafted may beautiful iron works both in Canada and Wales. As a hobby, John was a creative writer and poet and had even sent a poem in 1988 for the Winter Olympics which was read on air by CTV Sports. John very much liked sports and the outdoors, he would take his two sons to hockey practices, games and tournaments all over Alberta. John also coached all of his children's soccer, enjoyed watching and cheering for his children and granddaughters play in their sports. The family have many fond memories of camping trips with John, he was always a great storyteller, and adored being surrounded by his family.
John passed away peacefully at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at the age of 79 years. Devoted husband of the late Megan Owen and survived by his loving children, son - Geraint, daughter - Sian (Sterling), son - David (Claudia) and granddaughters - Elsa and Nia. He will also be sadly missed by his sister - Margaret, family, extended family and friends in Wales and Canada.
