Nature 40

Jeffrey "Jeff" Tyler Nielson

September 17, 1965 ~ December 16, 2021 (age 56)

On December 16, 2021, Jeffrey Nielson unexpectedly passed away with his loving spouse Sandy (Bennett) Nielson by his side. He was 56 years old.

He is the loving father of:  Tyler Curtis Nielson of Raymond, Erik Jeremy Nielson of Raymond, and Rachael Nicole (Spencer) Bullock of Welling.

He is also survived by his parents, Brent and Barbara (Tollestrup) Nielson; Sandy’s parents, Bill and Carol (Bullock) Bennett; siblings:  Shelley (Jerry) Humphreys, Todd (Janice) Nielson, Brad (Amy) Nielson, Carolyn (Del) Paquette, and Lori (CJ) Torgensen.

Loving doesn’t come close to describing the type of husband, father, friend, and leader Jeff was.  He had a gift for making everyone feel like they were his favorite person, and effortlessly he took care of everyone.  Jeff was born and raised in Cardston, Alberta, being the 3rd of 6 children born to Brent and Barbara Tollestrup Nielson.  Growing up, Jeff loved to participate in any sport that was available.  This passion continued into adulthood, where he followed sports closely.  He attended BYU Provo after serving a 2 year mission in the land of his forefathers, Stockholm, Sweden, for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  Once he graduated from BYU, he moved to California to complete optometry school.  While there, Jeff met the love of his life, Sandy.  After graduating optometry school and dragging his new wife back to Canada, Jeff and Sandy had 3 children, whom he loved dearly – Tyler, Erik, and Rachael.

He served faithfully in many roles in his Church, including Branch President, Young Men’s President, High Councilman, and 2nd Councilor in the Stake Presidency.  He truly loved to serve his fellow men.

Jeff will be greatly missed, but we take comfort in knowing that we will see him again and the knowledge he is joyfully embracing his new calling.
