Mr. 'Jack' John George Twitchen, beloved husband to Betty Twitchen of Magrath, passed away on Friday, July 9, 2021 in the Raymond Hospital at the age of 82 years.
He is the loving father to Danny Twitchen of Rodeo, California and father-in-law to Duke Wetherelt of Gull Lake, Saskatchewan. He is also survived by his three grandchildren; Kinn (Tera) Wetherelt, Denver (Bai-Lee) Wetherelt and Tida Twitchen of Rodeo, California. Kinn's family - Shaelene (James) Price with Veda Ascione, Briggs Ascione, Abbey Ascione with Chet Ascione, Chloe Ascione and Aliza Wetherelt. Denver's family - Marley June Wetherelt and Fenway Jack Wetherelt. Jack is also survived by a sister; Nancy Josling of Ontario.
Jack is predeceased by his parents; John George and Agnes Twitchen, a brother; Ken Twitchen, two sisters; Babe Smith and Shirley Pierson, and a daughter Elizabeth June (Duart) Wetherelt.
John George 'Jack' Twitchen was born in London, Ontario on December 19, 1938. At the age of 16, Jack moved west to Calgary, Alberta where he began working at the race track. At the age of 19, he met his 'to be' wife of 62 years, Betty Russell. Jack and Betty lived in the Calgary area for many years. Their daughter Elizabeth June and son Danny John were both born in Calgary. Jack and Betty then moved the family to Coaldale, Alberta where Jack was employed by George Money & Sons. In 1972 Jack and Betty purchased an acreage in Magrath, Alberta. Jack bought George Money & Sons and renamed it Jacks Mechanical Insulation. He enjoyed many years of training race and show horses. He also built and ran an exotic bird farm for many years.
Jack's love for hockey resulted in many years of work with the Lethbridge Sugar Kings and driving kids, grandkids and great grandkids all over Alberta to hockey. He also enjoyed baseball, fishing and golf.
A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in the Magrath Pioneer Cemetery, Magrath, AB with Rev. Eva Stanley conducting.
