Hazel Eagle Bear Obituary

    It is with great sadness that we, the family of Hazel Eagle Bear, announce her passing on February 6, 2020 in Lethbridge, Alberta.

    Hazel Eagle Bear was born on April 22, 1941 in Cardston, Alberta. Her family was at her bedside when she passed over. Hazel was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, wife, daughter, sister, auntie, and sister- in-law.

    She is survived by her sons: Dexter Eagle Bear, Farley Wesley Eagle Bear (nicknamed Smiley), Philbert Eagle Bear (known as Jim) wife Ish, adopted son Thomas Knife Eagle Bear. Her grandchildren: Kimberley Eagle Bear, Michael Brent Eagle Bear, Lucy Eagle Bear, Rae Lee Eagle Bear, Kineisha Eagle Bear. Her great-grandchildren: Kylie Eagle Bear-Big Throat, Kyle Eagle Bear-Big Throat, Caleb Eagle Bear Big-Throat, Miley Eagle Bear-Big Throat, Nova Eagle Bear, Kadence Eagle Bear. Her sisters: Magdaline Cress, Angeline Webster, Melva Black (Sydney). Her nieces: Isabelle Pothier, Patricia Crow Child, Sandra Vielle, Shirley (Gilbert) Wolf Child, Erin Black, Cary Black, Gloria Eli, Shirley Eli. Her nephews: Robert (Betty) Vielle, Phillip Cress, Jonathan Cress, Steven Gamble, Allen Eli, Ivan Eli, David Black. Hazel was predeceased by her husband Eddie Eagle Bear, her daughter Gloria Karen Eagle Bear, parents Frank and Lucy Eli, nee Willows, brothers: Lawrence (Alberta) Eli, Floyd ( Maryanne) Eli, sister Viola Eli, niece Andrea Schmidka Woods, nephew Larry Vielle, foster daughter Cheryl Knife, parents- in-law Jack and Agnes Eagle Bear, sisters- in-law: Eva (Alfred) Sweetgrass, Louise (Herbert) Bullshields, Margaret (Andrew) Weaselfat, brothers -in-law: Mike (Angeline) Eagle Bear, Stan ( Madeline) Eagle Bea, Billy Eagle Bear, Louis (Louise) Knife. 

    Hazel was brought up on the Blood Reserve at St. Paul's Residential School. She lived with Eddie after leaving residential school. She and Eddie married in 1970. They separated in 1985 and Hazel moved to Lethbridge, Alberta. She went to the Lethbridge College and to the U of L to upgrade her education. Hazel was a foster parent for many years. Hazel was a board member of the Friendship Center, a board member of Treaty Seven, and various committees. She liked to crochet and do word puzzles. She liked road trips. Hazel and her daughter Karen and granddaughter Kimberley and her foster children went to Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, Los Angeles (Disneyland), Seattle, Coeur d'Alene (Silverwoods), Spokane, Vancouver and other places.

    The Wake Service will be held at Old Agency on Friday, Feb. 14, 2020 from 7:00 – 11:00 p.m.  The Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2020 at Old Agency at 12 Noon.
