Fonda, the youngest of seven children, was born at home in Raymond on September 28, 1935, to Roy and Verona Nalder. The family later moved to Picture Butte, where she was valedictorian of her graduating class. She met Bob, and they were married on August 5, 1953. She then moved to the Hanna family farm in Diamond City.
Fonda was always busy doing something. For many years, she worked weighing beets at the sugar factory in Picture Butte until it closed. She also spent many years cleaning the church in Diamond City. She dedicated many hardworking years as a teacher’s aide at Dorothy Dalgliesh Elementary School in Picture Butte, where she touched the lives of many students. Simultaneously with these work endeavours, she was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and spent countless hours helping others in Diamond City, Lethbridge, and at the temple in Cardston.
A favourite hobby of hers was covering hangers with yarn. Several family members’ closets are filled with these precious labours of love. Even in her later years, when she was not as agile as she once had been, she spent much of her time crocheting afghans, some for family and many more for donation to different organizations. Recently, she had also been learning to speak Spanish.
At Fonda’s request, there will be no funeral service. A private family viewing and burial will be held.
She will be deeply missed.
