Emma Gisela Selma (Wurfler) Wise

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Mum, Mrs. Emma Selma Gisela Wise, at the Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge, Alberta, on December 11, 2024, at the age of 88 years.

Gisela (Mum) was predeceased by her husband Michael and is survived by her four children: Diane (Peter) Kooy, Michael (Michelle) Wise, Peter (Angela) Wise, and Keshet Wise, as well as eight grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

Mum was born and raised in Berlin, Germany, where she experienced the horrors of the Second World War. After the war ended, Mum continued to live in Berlin with her parents. In 1956, she met and married her handsome British soldier and thus began her life as a travelling soldier’s wife. Mum’s life with Dad was an adventure of travelling around the world and making a home wherever he was posted with their four children in tow. After Dad’s retirement from the army, they owned and operated a furniture business in Germany for a few years and did more travelling around the world. Then in 2001 they emigrated to Canada where they settled in Nobleford, Alberta. Mum enjoyed spending time knitting, crocheting, reading and visiting with friends at the Nobleford Seniors Centre, and she loved beating us all at Scrabble and other games.

A family interment will be held at the Monarch-Nobleford Cemetery at a later date.
