Edward Henry Friesen, a beloved resident of Lethbridge, Alberta, and formerly of Grande Prairie, Alberta, went home to his Lord and Saviour on November 19, 2024, at the age of 84. Born on February 17, 1940, in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. He was the oldest son of the late Abram and Maria Friesen.
Ed is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Anne, and their loving children: Glen (Cheryl) Friesen, Gail (Ronald) Jones, and Gregory Friesen. He was a proud grandfather to Kari (Brad) Friesen, Darnell (Julia) Jones, and Tyrell (Erin) Jones, and a great-grandfather to Benjamin Sutherland, Angela Boros, Caprice Boros, Rylan Boros, Kase Jones, and Beau Jones. Ed is also fondly remembered by his siblings: Ernest (Sue) Friesen, Richard (Irma) Friesen, Robert (Bev) Friesen, Calvin (Marian) Friesen, Violet Derksen, June (Nick) Dyck, Martha (Blaire) Rustulka, and Judith Friesen, along with numerous beloved members of Anne’s family and many, many nieces, nephews, relatives and dear friends.
Throughout his career, Ed made significant contributions while working for the Canadian Government’s Department of Agriculture, where he began as a Lab Technician in Vauxhall, AB before relocating to Lethbridge Research Station so he could complete his Grade 12 education. He subsequently moved to Beaverlodge, AB Research Station and later joined Proctor and Gamble/Weyerhauser in Grande Prairie, initially as a Lab Technician before obtaining his Parts Certificate to become a Partsman. Ed also worked for Weyerhauser in Seattle, Washington, commuting from Grande Prairie. His professional life was marked by dedication and integrity.
Ed was a pillar of his church and community, known for his infectious laughter, heartfelt prayers, and kind words. His generosity knew no bounds, and he was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. His legacy of kindness and faith will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Predeceased by his parents and many family members, Ed leaves behind a legacy of love and strong Christian faith. His memory will be cherished by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched. If Ed were able to convey a final message to those who cared for him, it would be to explore the truths found in the Bible and to cultivate a profound belief in the Lord Jesus, emphasizing how this faith can lead to a more fulfilling life both now and into eternity.
