Delphine Chalmers (Chief Calf)   -   (Aa kohk'kiim'akii) Town of Cardston Woman

    Delphine Chalmers of Lethbridge, passed away at home on Monday, October 6, 2025, at the age of 67 years.

    Delphine was born on March 28, 1958 to the late Tom and Lena Chief Calf. She was the fourth child and baby girl of 9 children. At a young age Delphine caught whooping cough and spent a lengthy time in the Cardston Hospital. Due to her illness, the parents spent days and nights by her side, until she was finally well enough to return home.

    Delphine was frail as a child, she was independent and played by herself with her dolls and toys. Once in awhile she would join the rest of us children to play hide n seek and tag outside. Delphine was dainty and always wore dresses. she was quiet, observant and academically smart.

    Delphine left home at a young age to attend school off-reserve in the City of Lethbridge. She boarded with a non-native family in the city. Her cousins (late Lorna) and Gloria Spear Chief were her companions in her teen years. Delphine loved her nieces and nephews. She was a mother-figure, disciplinary and confidant to them all.

    Delphine was a wonderful cook and homemaker. Her home always had the aroma of her cooking. Her speciality was scalloped potatoes (her own recipe and big jug of Kool-Aid). She loved to cook. Her employment history was mainly in the hospitality industry as a cook and housekeeping. 

    Delphine met Randy Chalmers and was married in 1983. Together they had 2 children, Samantha and Randy Jr.  Together as a couple they worked side by side with Randys parents in Waterton Lake Park, El Cortez Motel for the summer seasons. Delphine often mentioned her happiest memories was of that time with her husband. Delphine became a widow when her husband Randy passed away and she was left to raise their 2 children alone. Delphine was dedicated to her children, provided for them by continuing to work until her health declined. She has always been an Independant woman.

    She is survived by her children Samantha (Chris) Neville, Randy Jr. Grandchildren: Warren, Avery, Emily, Gavin and Oliver. She is also survived by her mother Lena Chief Calf; siblings: Catherine (Roger) Hunt, Avelina (William) Long Time Squirrel, Denis (Mary) Chief Calf, Danny (Jaunita) Chief Calf, Tom (late Ann) Chief Calf, Mervin  (Carmelita) Chief Calf, John Chief Calf, Calvert (April) Chief Calf.

    Extended families include: Blackforehead, Brewer, Good Rider, Knife, Mills, Russell, Spear Chief, Shot Both Sides, Vielle and Wolf Child. We apologize if we missed any family.

    A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 at 4:00 pm at Christensen Salmon Generations Funeral Home, 703 – 13 St N, Lethbridge.
