(Charlotte) Marlene Cox Obituary

It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of Marlene Cox.
Marlene passed away with family by her side, at the Chinook Regional Hospital, on March 10th at the age of 84.

Marlene’s husband of 47 years, Blaine, passed away in 2007. They are survived by their children and grandchildren: Shelley (Joe) Wright, Blayne (Roy) Adams, Haley (Sam) Heaney; Ryan (Pam) Cox, Logan Cox, Nicole Cox; Ken (Shannon Jacobs) Cox, Chase (Randi) Cox, Meghan Cox. She is also survived by her sister, Dora (Lou Ganske) Olson, and sister-in-law, Irene (Vayle – deceased) Olson, as well as family on dad’s side: Gayle (Bill) Toth, Karen (Jim) Bagshaw, Sheldon Cox, Don Cox, Lee Cox, Les Delparte. There are nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and Uncle Noph that were important to mom.

When you live a relatively long life, there are many who go before you. Marlene was pre-deceased by: Blaine, Frank and Isabelle Olson (parents), Kent and Vayle (brothers), Connie Cox (daughter-in-law), LeMond and Genneal Cox (parents-in-law), Kathryn Delparte, Pat Cox, Sharon Cox, Hanna Cox, Marie Clark, Mary Cox, Connie Cox, Doug Clark, Monte Cox, Gary Cox (sisters and brothers-in-law).

Mom was delivered at home by her Grandma Olson on May 3, 1937. She was stubborn and determined even then to come into the world on her terms. She loved being a big sister to Kent, Vayle and Dora. The Olson family moved around a bit and then settled at Park Lake for many years when her dad worked at LNID. She graduated from Picture Butte High School and then attended Olds College. It was near the end of her first year there that she was diagnosed with M.S. at the age of 19. After some adjustment time, mom moved to Edmonton where she worked. On her trips back home, she and Blaine would see each other at church and this started their romance that would see them married in August 1960. They lived in High River, Calgary, Pincher Creek, Lethbridge and then the farm by Park Lake. During this time they had their family: Shelley, Ryan and Ken. Mom loved being a wife and mom. Her devotion to her family was evident in all she did. Then, grandkids were added to the family. They brought her another level of such deep joy and happiness. Mom was always so excited to see family and friends. Those blue, sparkling eyes just pulled you in and showed how happy she was to see you.

Mom resided at West Highlands, Good Sam's in Lethbridge, AB for the last 16 years. We, and mom, want to thank all those that have cared for, and been a part of her life, through the years. Your love and care have meant so much.

Dr. Burton and the hospital staff were so kind and compassionate through our days at the hospital. Thank you to you, as well for helping mom and us through that time.

Marlene was stubborn, determined, courageous, strong, loving, generous, fun, funny, creative, of deep faith, an amazing listener, a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mom, a grandma, a dear friend, and so many more things. We will miss her very much, but will hold her in our hearts and know she is reunited with dad and those who have gone before her.

For those who wish to stop by, there will be a viewing at Christensen Salmon Generations Funeral Home, 703 – 13 St. N on Friday, March 18, 2022 from 6:00 to 7:30 pm.
