Brenda Ball Obituary

Brenda Kay Ball (Heggie), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2025, at the age of 78.

Born on August 25, 1947, in Raymond, Alberta, to Grant and Lois Heggie, Brenda was a spirited and adventurous child—a true tomboy with a passion for reading and a love of the playground. She graduated from Raymond High School and pursued post-secondary education at Lethbridge Community College, later earning a degree in Food Science and Nutrition from the University of Edmonton.

Brenda’s love for learning led her to Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, where she completed her Master’s degree in Food Science and Nutrition. She worked for the Government of Canada as an interviewer for the national Nutrition Canada Survey, a role that took her across the country and deepened her love for people and community.

While working in Newfoundland in the early 1970s, Brenda met the love of her life, Sheldon Ball. The two were married in 1972 and went on to build a beautiful life together, raising five children: Mitchell (Jana), Jeffrey (Natalie), Marina (Merlin), Catherine (Anthony), and Susanne (Chris). Brenda’s greatest joy was her family, and she devoted herself fully to her role as a stay-at-home mother during her children’s early years.

In the 1980s, Brenda began working as a cook at the Raymond Hospital, a position she held with dedication and care until her retirement in 2008. Her warmth, hard work, and sense of service made her a cherished colleague and friend.

A lifelong and devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Brenda served faithfully in many church callings throughout her life. She was also active in her community—volunteering at lodges and seniors’ centres, and sharing her beautiful singing voice in various choirs. Music brought her great joy, and she loved using her talents to lift and inspire others.

One of Brenda’s most beloved ventures was her work as an Avon sales representative—a role she held with enthusiasm. For many years, Brenda was a familiar and welcome face at countless doorsteps across town, faithfully delivering catalogs and orders while forging meaningful friendships with her customers. She had a natural gift for conversation and a warm, approachable demeanor that made her a favorite among her Avon clients. To Brenda, Avon was more than a job—it was a way to connect with people, share joy, and brighten someone’s day with a smile, a chat, and a lipstick sample.

Brenda’s legacy lives on in her husband Sheldon, her five children, and her many beloved grandchildren. She will be remembered for her kind heart, her strength, her love of learning, and her unwavering dedication to faith and family.
