Barry Jensen Obituary

It is with much sadness that the family of Barry Dale Jensen announce his unexpected death. Barry passed away peacefully with his eternal companion Kristine by his side at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at the age of 75 years, due to complications from a fall on February 5.

Barry was born in Cardston, AB on March 29, 1948.   He was the 4th child born to Bill & Donna Jensen.  Barry spent his much of his life growing up in the Aetna & Cardston areas.  He went to school in Cardston & lived there until going to work on a farm in Foremost, AB.  Barry lived in various places in Alberta making Lethbridge his final home.

Barry was predeceased by his parents Bill & Donna, brother Derrell, sister & brother in law Darlene & Ron LeBlanc, daughter Michelle Smith, sister-in-laws Brenda Jensen, Cheryl Ackerman, in-laws Babe & Loreen Ackerman  & dear friend Rick Richardson.

He leaves behind to cherish many memories, his wife, Kristine Ackerman Jensen, brother Delton, sister-in-law Sylvia, sons David (Zhanat) & Brad (Iza), daughter Gloria,brother-in-law Phillip Ackerman,  Kristine’s children Jessica Wedel & Tyler Wedel, as well as  22 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, several nieces & nephews & good friend Patricia Richardson.

Barry loved his family very much.  Each grandchild was his most favourite.  His face would light up when his children would come to visit & bring their children.  He enjoyed having grandkids come for sleepovers.

Barry was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints & held many positions during his life. He had a strong testimony of Jesus Christ.  He loved the scriptures.  Attending church & the temple were very important to him.  Barry went as often as he could.  Due to physical limitations, especially in the last few years, he was not able  to attend either as often as he would have liked to.

Barry will be remembered for his love of  music & was a very talented musician.   He loved playing the piano & organ & was teaching himself to play the guitar & ukulele.  Often he would listen to a song then run to the piano and within a few minutes was playing it as if he had known it for ever.  He had the ability to play by ear & put his own spin on the songs.  Barry & Kristine played piano & organ duets at church & for many funerals.  Barry played keyboard in various dance bands in southern Alberta  throughout the years.

Much of his time was spent  playing at Seniors homes in Lethbridge & Taber,  entertaining the residents with his music.

Barry enjoyed being outside.   He had a talent for gardening & a love for agricultural - especially the irrigation industry.  He could tell you all you wanted to know about Reinke pivots & whose farmland they were placed on.  He loved camping & riding his motorbike.   Barry had the opportunity to travel to Redmond, Oregon for a BMW rally & loved every mile he rode.  He & Kristine enjoyed the trips to Georgia, Florida, Texas, & many other places during our time together.  Barry had a great desire to learn the history of different places, countries & people.  Barry had a great interest in exploring  the foods from various places as well.  He took pleasure in cooking & sharing his culinary creations with others.

Barry loved sports with basket ball being his most favourite.  His most beloved team was the Duke Blue Devils.  Come March of every year, the only thing playing on our TV was the March Madness Basket Ball Tournament right down to the final game.  Barry would have the schedule printed off, the scores written in, his Duke cap on, his bottle of Coke & himself parked right in front of the TV.

Barry started his working career on a farm in Foremost. He worked for the Co-Op in Calgary & Vauxhall.  His last & most enjoyable employment was  spending 22 years at RPH Irrigation, owned by Roy Hoffman.  While employed there he was Office Manager of the Lethbridge & Taber, AB offices as well as the Choteau, Montana office.  Barry enjoyed the people he worked with as well as the many people he met along the way.  Many lifelong friends were made by Barry while in these positions.

Our family expresses our deepest gratitude to the homecare nurses of LFS & CBI, to the compassionate nurses in the ICU, Unit 4A & the doctors at the Chinook Regional Hospital.

The service for Barry is scheduled for Saturday, March 30, 2024, at 12:00 PM, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 175 Rocky Mountain Blvd West, Lethbridge,AB.  Friends may meet with the family prior to the funeral service from 11:00 - 11:45 am.  A private interment will follow at a later date.
