Barbara Wilmot Obituary

Barbara Jean Wilmot, beloved wife of the late George Albert Wilmot, passed away peacefully at St. Michael's Health Care Centre on Thursday, February 25, 2021 at the age of 91 years.

She was born on August 5, 1929 in Lethbridge, the fifth child of seven to Robert and Ruth Harvey. When she was 9 her family moved to Wilson Siding where she made many life long friends. She attended White School and later McNally High School and it was there that Mom met the love of her life, George Wilmot. From the moment she saw him, she knew that he was the one. They were married November 8, 1952 and moved to the Wilmot family farm where they raised their four daughters.

Mom was a faithful lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She and George were among the original members of the Coaldale Branch/Ward and she served in many capacities including Relief Society, Young Women’s, and Primary. In their later years, they served a mission and were temple workers.

Her greatest love, however was music. She had an amazing singing voice and sang at numerous weddings and funerals, also singing with many choirs including the Singing Mothers in 1967. Barbara was the chorister in the Coaldale Ward for years. One of her greatest heartbreaks was the loss of her singing voice due to Parkinson’s Disease.

In spite of numerous health issues Mom was able to be in her own home till she passed away.

Barbara is survived by her daughters, Linda Wilmot, Karen (Rod) Gough, Lori (Paul) Beattie, and Connie (John) Porter, her sister Zan Welch and sisters-in-law Rose Harvey and Evelyn Wilmot, 14 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren with #47 on the way.

She was predeceased by her Eternal love, George, grandson Mark Beattie, and granddaughter Amy (Gough) Anderson.

Our family would like to thank the staff of Lethbridge Family Services Home Care , Chinook Regional Hospital and St. Michael’s Palliative Care Unit who took such good care of Mom.
