NELS NATHAN JOHNSON of Raymond, beloved husband of Carol Ann Johnson, passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2019 at the age of 76.
Born in Lethbridge to Nathan and Pearl Johnson, Nels attended and completed school in Raymond, AB. In 1961 he joined the Army and was honourably released in 1964. Nels met Carol on February 14 1964, and they were married 13 months later on March 30 1965. They went on to have four children together. His children describe their Dad as an amazing Father who was always there for them when they needed.
Nels was a truck driver for many years. His favourite job was transporting trailers from USA back to Canada, and between 1999-2007 he hauled 507 trailers. In later years he also enjoyed working with his two sons by driving truck for their roofing company. He retired in 2009.
He was a member of the Raymond Ag Society as well as the Hospital Auxiliary.
A fun hobby was helping his boys build mud trucks, and only once, in Pollockville, were they able to talk Dad into driving the truck in a mud bog. Nels finished this race in first place. When he went up to claim his prize, he ran up fast, grabbed his trophy and kept on running. He would go on to talk about this day for years to come with pride.
Many will remember Nels for his famous bright orange cap he always wore. You could find him in a crowd as he never left home without it.
