ERIKA CHRISTENSEN SOMMERFELDT, beloved wife of the late Karl Sommerfeldt, passed away on Friday, June 22, 2018 at the Chinook Regional Hospital at the age of 83 years.
She is the loving mother to Michael (Dorothy) Sommerfeldt of Las Vegas, Nevada, Christine (Peter) Rooyakkers of Lethbridge, Alberta and Heather (Seth) Butler of Tucson, Arizona. Erika is also survived by 25 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
She was also predeceased by her brothers Harry Christensen and Walter Christensen and sister Lisa Schlicht.
Erika was born January 17, 1935 to Johann & Elsa Christensen in Sonderborg, Denmark. She was a lover of good music and has spent years conducting and participating in choirs and musical performances. She loved to help others reach their musical potential. She has also been knitting and crocheting since she was young and has taught many those skills, including nurses in her dialysis unit while she was there. Erika has also been an English tutor through the library and has helped many learn skills after they arrived in Lethbridge.
She has touched many, many lives for the better and her open heart has given many a place to find solace. Erika will be missed not only by her family but also the community in which she served so many.
Friends may meet with the family on Friday, July 6, 2018 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Christensen Salmon Generations Funeral Home, 703 - 13 Street North, or prior to the service at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, NORTHSIDE CHAPEL, 2223 6A Ave N, Lethbridge, from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, July 7, 2018. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow the service at the Archmount Cemetery.
